Spring Valley Vineyard was founded by Dean and Shari Derby in Walla Walla, Washington in 1999. In 2005, the companyw as sold to Chateau Ste Michelle, which at the time was owned by US Tobacco. In 2009, Altria (fomerly known as Phillip Morris) purchased US Tobacco. In 2021, they sold the Chateau Ste Michelle portfolio to private equity firm Sycamore Partners for $1.2 billion. In late 2025, Sycamore sold several of the Chateau assets to Washington-based Wyckoff family, led by Court Wyckoff.
