Merryvale Vineyards was founded in St. Helena, California in 1983 by William Harlan, John Montgomery, Peter Stocker, and Robin and Jon Lail. In 1992, the group sold a 50% stake in the business to Swiss entrepreneur Jack Schlatter, who later took full ownership of the business in 1996.
